When the glass at her feet is shown, she is wearing socks
Narrative
After witnessing a bizarre and traumatic incident involving a patient, a psychiatrist becomes increasingly convinced that she is being menaced by a strange entity. A couple of days before the film’s September 30, 2022 release, actors from the film appeared at several baseball games, sitting behind home plate, motionless and smiling as they stared into the camera, unmoving despite understandably concerned fans in the audience, while wearing Smile T-shirts. Another soon appeared in the background with the crowd during the Today show. At about the 31-minute mark, Rose breaks a glass as her alarm goes off.
Rose Cotter: What are you?
A few seconds later, as she checks the door, she is wearing lace-up shoes. Based on what happens later at a party, there are several continuity issues that may not be “mistakes” but may actually be deliberate to show “breaks” in Rose’s consciousness/sanity. Why are you doing this to me? The Monstrosity: Because Your Mind Is So Cozy…

The opening and closing Paramount logos have a curved smile-shaped line at the base of the mountain. Lollipop Written by Beverley Ross and Julius Dixon Performed by The Chordettes. This was a movie I was really hesitant about because the premise seemed so similar to Truth or Dare (2018) and I really hate that movie. However, I started hearing some good things about this movie at Fantastic Fest 2022 and that gave me some hope so I decided to want the movie and Smile (2022) was easily one of the biggest surprises of 2022.

Positives for Smile (2022): Unlike Truth or Dare (2018), this movie really makes the evil smile trick work. I have to give kudos to writer-director Parker Finn for making this trick really scary at times. I really enjoyed the lead performance of Sosie Bacon as Rose Cotter and yes, she is the daughter of Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick. I also really liked the supporting cast with Kyle Gallner, Jessie T.
And finally, the ending of the film was a bit of a downer for me
There are some effective uses of blood in the film and it adds to the scary nature of Smile in this film. And finally, the camera work in this film is spectacular especially considering it was Parker Finn’s feature directorial debut. Negatives of Smile (2022): Even though tlme praises this film, it feels like other horror films I’ve seen in the past like Ringu (1998), It Follows (2014), and of course, Truth or Dare (2018) so there’s nothing new in this film with the exception of the execution. Overall, Smile (2022) is one of the best horror movies that I initially wouldn’t care for but instead I ended up loving this movie a lot and can’t wait for Smile 2 (2024).
